PORES (LARGE OR CLOGGED)
Your pore size is set at puberty. There are two circumstances that will effect how they look. If your pore is filled with dead skin cells and thick oil it will either swell open and possibly be inflamed or turn black from oxidized oil, making a blackhead. Either look is that of huge pores. So keeping pores cleaned out and without inflammation reduces the pore to minimum size. Since pores can be as deep as an quarter of an inch into the skin, keeping them cleaned out can be a challenge, particularly to oily, dehydrated people. Hydration plays a key role here. The sebaceous oil your skin produces is thin when you drink enough water. (Four ounces per ten pounds of body weight minimum per day). If you don’t drink enough fluid (anything that is not alcohol or has ever been caffeinated) your sebaceous glands make a thick oil that clogs pores. Extra oil that you put on your skin can have the same results. There are limited ingredients that will penetrate a pore and clean it out. That also takes time…weeks, maybe months. A professional facial can speed that up considerably, then daily care is required to keep the pores clean and soothed.
I recommend an Adult Acne Facial for anyone with lots of clogged pores. Sometimes only one facial is needed with education and product to prevent future clogs. If you have moderate to severe acne, a weekly treatment is recommended to completely clean out the pores, usually 3 to 6 treatments (see acne concerns). At home routine will include drinking enough water (4 ounces per 10 pounds of body weight per day minimum), cleansing with Acne Advanced Cleansing Foam, Mangosteen Cleanser or Stone Crop Wash morning and night, Stone Crop Hydrating Mist, either Red Currant or Bright Skin Moisturizer (both have sunscreen) Clear Skin WillowBark Exfoliating Peel, or Mangosteen Concentrate, Acne Advanced Clarifying Mask and
Arctic Berry Peptide Cream (for overnight treatment)
The other circumstance that can lead to pores looking very large is lack of elasticity. As we age we loose collagen and fatty layers that give us contours. Everything seems to droop…including the opening to pores. Prevention is the best way to handle this with anything that increases your collagen and firmness. But if you are trying to correct already drooping skin then
I recommend a series of three Micro-channelling Treatments at two week intervals with two take home serums to integrate with your present home care or incorporation of Eminence products. This series of three is followed with a monthly to every six week Aging Gracefully Facial. And needless to say, a more complicated skin care routine may be required…similar to my own which begins at night with Mangosteen Cleanser, Neroli Age Corrective Hydrating Mist, Marine Flower Peptide Eye Cream, Lotus Detoxifying Overnight Treatment, and Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil. In the morning I will wash my face with Lemon Cleanser, followed with Neroli Age Corrective Hydrating Mist, Mangosteen Concentrate, Hibiscus products (3): Neck, Eye and Line Filler, followed by Tropical Vanilla Sunscreen/Moisturizer. It literally takes me four minutes in the morning and three minutes at night.
